The personal information that Bentley may collect may include your name, username, password, email address, age, date of birth, gender, address, telephone number, credit card and debit card numbers (with expiration dates), personal preferences, and any other personal information that you choose to include in your profile, or in other communications to Bentley. You represent and warrant that you have the right and authority or have obtained all necessary consents to provide any information, including any personal information of another individual, which is provided by you to Bentley.
Protection of Information
To prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, maintain data accuracy and facilitate the appropriate use of information, Bentley uses physical, technological and administrative procedures to protect the personal information that Bentley collects from loss, unauthorised access, modification, disclosure or other misuse. When you enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number) on our order forms, we encrypt the transmission of that information using secure socket layer technology (SSL).
Nevertheless, Internet transmissions are never completely private or secure. You understand that any messages or information you send to the Sites may be read or intercepted by others. If you have any questions about the security of personal information collected by Bentley, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Use of Personal Information
Upon Bentley’s collection of your personal information, Bentley may use such personal information internally, separately or in combination with pre-existing information, for the following purposes:
Disclosure of Information
Bentley may disclose your personal information to its subsidiaries or affiliates and to third parties whom Bentley hires to provide services on Bentley’s behalf, including, but not limited to, support services, website services, delivering promotional materials, contests, sweepstakes and other promotions, and answering customer questions about Bentley’s products and services. Bentley will only provide those third parties with the personal information that they need to deliver the services to Bentley and/or on Bentley’s behalf.
In the event that Bentley is involved in a business transaction, including the purchase, sale, lease, merger, amalgamation or any other type of acquisition, disposal, securitization or financing involving Bentley, you will be notified via email and/or a prominent notice on our website of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information, as well as any choices you may have regarding your personal information. You also consent to Bentley disclosing your personal information to legal, financial, insurance, or other advisors in connection with such business transaction or management of all or part of Bentley’s business or operations; as consented to by you from time to time, including to fulfill any other purposes that are identified when the personal information is collected; or as otherwise permitted or required by law.
Bentley may also disclosure your information as required by law, such as to comply with a subpoena, or similar legal process, when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.
Retention of Personal Information
The personal information that you provide will be retained by Bentley for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. However, Bentley will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify personal information it holds if it is no longer needed for Bentley business purposes.
Choice and Opt-Out Preferences
Bentley does not collect your personal information unless you choose to provide it. If, at any time, you prefer not to receive further email communications from Bentley (except in connection with information, products or services that you specifically request), you will have the ability to unsubscribe from such communications by means of a link provided in every broadcast e-mail that is sent to you by Bentley.
We may provide you the opportunity to participate in contests or surveys on our website. If you participate, we will request certain personal information from you. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you therefore have a choice whether or not to disclose this information. The requested information typically includes contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as postal code).
We use this information to notify contest winners and award prizes, to monitor site traffic or personalize the website and/or to send participants an email newsletter.
We may use a third party service provider to conduct these surveys or contests; that company is prohibited from using our users’ personal information for any other purpose. We will not share the personal information you provide through a contest or survey with other third parties unless we give you prior notice and choice.
Access and Correction
Bentley will take reasonable steps to ensure the personal information it holds is accurate, complete and up to date. Upon your written request, subject to certain exceptions, Bentley will inform you of the existence, use and disclosure of your personal information and give you access to that information. Additionally, if you have any questions or enquiries relating to our privacy practices or procedures, or if you believe that the personal information that Bentley holds about you is not accurate, complete or up to date you may correct, update or delete your personal information by making the change on our member information page or you may write to the Privacy Officer at the address provided below. Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies
Like many websites, Bentley utilizes “cookies” to maintain a record of your visit to the Sites. A cookie is a small text file that is transferred by a web server and stored on the hard drive of your computer. It can only be read by the server that sent it to you. This information does not identify you personally and you remain anonymous unless you have otherwise provided Bentley with personal information. We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. A session ID cookie expires when you close your browser. We use session cookies to make it easier for you to navigate our website. A persistent cookie remains on your hard drive for an extended period of time. We set a persistent cookie to store your passwords, so you don’t have to enter it more than once. You can remove persistent cookies by following directions provided in your Internet browser’s “help” file.
Cookies help Bentley improve the Sites and to deliver more personalized service by enabling Bentley to estimate audience size and usage patterns; to store information about your preferences; to speed up your searches and to recognize you when you return to the Sites.
Most web browsers automatically accept cookies. If you would prefer to prevent your computer from accepting Bentley cookies, you may follow your Internet browser’s steps for doing so. Please note, however, that if you do disable cookies from your browser, you may not be able to access certain sections of the Sites.
Our third party advertising partner employs a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web PixelsBugs) that help us better manage content on our Sites by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of Web users. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on a user’s computer hard drive, clear gifs are embedded invisibly on Web pages and are about the size of the period at the end of this sentence. We tie [do not tie] the information gathered by clear gifs to our customers’ personal information.
